Notes
20 February 2012 - Nestbox went in Saturday; Anna's getting everything ready. So far she has refrained from nesting in the box, biting it instead... oh well, she'll figure it out. A little bit of fur's floating around--fun fact: pregnant does' belly fur starts to loosen as they gestate. Snowing again tonight--morning water run in store. I may be a peer mentor for First Year Seminar on food issues next semester! Got my first seed catalog in the mail. Can't wait to order seeds like a big kid!
12 February 2012 - Three weeks left in the baby countdown... reading Quarter Acre Farm by Spring Warren. Hope to finish today so I can get started on Michael Pollan's Second Nature. First snow that sticks last night/this morning, but it looks more like dust that hasn't been swept out of corners than a real snow. Rabbits don't mind though their bottles are freezing.
10 February 2012 - Just read Alice Walker's The Chicken Chronicles. Whoa, fast read, weird read, great read!
9 February 2012 - About 1/5 through Anna's gestation period. Shit's gettin' real, man! Have a lead on greenhouse space. Seed catalogs on the way.
5 February 2012 - Bred Anna/Sebastian. Expecting 4 March. Trying to figure out how to get greenhouse space somewhere nearby.
4 February 2012 - Thinking I will breed Anna/Sebastian tomorrow, weather permitting. Made a rabbit breeding chart, here.
27 January 2012 - Just finished Walden last night. Journaling in a moment. Ideas of what to write in the fall are starting to crystallize a tiny bit. Trying to decide when exactly to breed Anna and Sebastian.
23 January 2012 - I'm still trying to figure out my own routine and how to mix theirs in with mine; I'm still figuring out how much food they really need every evening, whether or not to take it away in the morning... This morning Sebastian was flipping out, and I have no idea why--but I mean he was crazy, literally flipping onto every surface in his cage including the ceiling. I took him out into a little ex-pen for a break, to see if maybe he needed to run laps or something but he just ate some onion grass.
Meanwhile, I'm reading Thoreau's Walden - ugh. Will have a lot to say about this in a few days.
16 January 2012 - Rabbits moved in to hutches (finally!) at school.
15 January 2012 - Brought hutches down to school.
9 January 2012 - Rabbits are settling in, though they still have one more move before they'll get to settle for the semester (and then another move in the summer). Luckily rabbits are adaptable. Anna is such a sweetie, with gorgeous eyelashes. Tanya and Sebastian are quiet, not easy to handle, but incredibly dense animals. Such a huge difference between the pet and meat rabbits.
8 January 2012 - Rabbit breeding stock purchased (Anna, Tanya, Sebastian)
29 November 2011 - SMP Prospectus approved
8 November 2011 - Permission to keep rabbits at Historic granted
